What is a UTM builder?

A UTM builder is a free tool that adds UTM tracking parameters to any URL so you can see exactly where your website traffic comes from inside Google Analytics. Instead of manually typing parameters, a UTM builder formats them correctly every time.

What do UTM parameters mean?

UTM parameters are short tags added to a URL: utm_source identifies where the traffic comes from (e.g. google, newsletter), utm_medium identifies the marketing channel (e.g. cpc, email), utm_campaign names the specific campaign. Term and content are optional for paid keyword and ad variant tracking.

Do UTM links affect SEO?

UTM parameters do not affect your SEO rankings. Google treats URLs with UTM parameters as the same page as the clean URL. However, it's best practice to set your canonical URL to the version without UTM params to avoid any duplicate content signals.

Are UTM links case-sensitive?

Yes — Google Analytics treats utm_source=Google and utm_source=google as two separate sources. Always use lowercase values and underscores instead of spaces to keep your reports consistent.

Can I use UTM links on social media?

Absolutely. UTM links work anywhere — social media posts, email campaigns, Google Ads, QR codes, and more. The URL is just longer; the page destination is identical.

How do I view UTM data in Google Analytics?

In GA4, go to Reports → Acquisition → Traffic acquisition. The session source / medium dimension shows your UTM values. You can also create custom explorations filtered by utm_campaign.
