Common Questions

Questions
we get asked.

How do I create a brand colour palette?

Start with one primary colour that reflects your brand personality. Then use a colour harmony rule — complementary (opposite on the colour wheel), analogous (adjacent colours), or triadic (three evenly spaced colours) — to generate supporting colours. Aim for 4–6 colours: a primary, a secondary, an accent, a neutral dark, and a neutral light.

How many colours should a brand palette have?

Most brand palettes have 4–6 colours. A typical structure: one primary colour (dominant brand colour), one or two secondary colours (support the primary), one accent colour (calls to action, highlights), and neutral tones (backgrounds, text, dividers). Too many colours makes a brand feel inconsistent.

What colour harmony rules work best for brands?

Complementary palettes (opposite colours) create high contrast and energy — good for bold brands. Analogous palettes (adjacent colours) feel harmonious and calm — good for wellness or professional services brands. Triadic palettes (three equidistant colours) are vibrant and balanced — good for creative brands.

What is the 60-30-10 colour rule in branding?

The 60-30-10 rule is a design principle for colour balance: 60% of your design uses your dominant colour (usually a neutral like white or navy), 30% uses your secondary colour, and 10% uses your accent colour for emphasis. This creates visual harmony without feeling monotonous.

How do I export my colour palette to use in my website?

Use the export panel below the palette. CSS Variables format gives you a :root block you can paste directly into your stylesheet. SCSS format gives you variables for Sass/SCSS projects. Tailwind config format gives you the colours object to add to tailwind.config.js.

Can I extract colours from my logo or existing brand images?

Yes — use the "From Image" mode in the palette generator. Upload your logo or a brand photo and the tool samples the dominant colours from the image. This is useful for building a full palette that coordinates with an existing visual asset.
